Photographer's Note

Almost squatting on the dirt floor these market vendors in the central market of Vang Vieng are having their simple lunch, while the kid is looking on. What tourists is sold as Laotian lunch or dinner buffet in some upmarket restaurants and hotels in Vientiane is far away from the daily reality, what the local people really eat for lunch. The silver coloured container is filled with sticky rice which is eating with fresh bird chillies and some very sour veggies in the bowl next to the women in red. There is no meat nor fish, which is too expensive and may is eating once a month. Nonetheless this market traders are better of then the majority of the Laotians because they have 3 meals a day. Many only eat one a day.
