Photographer's Note

...there's marijuana. the plant is strictly illegal in all sea countries, however there are "pockets" (mostly frequented by western tourists) where the local officials are more (a lot more) lenient towards the use of the recreational drug for the sake of those precious tourist dollars (.. or perhaps they have come to similar conclusions regarding its danger to society as most of their western counterparts) ... sagada in the phils, lake toba in indonesia, pretty much all popular beaches in thailand, van vieng in laos are among the places that come to mind.... however no other location have i ever visited where the stuff was as heavily touted as in pakbeng, a sleepy little town on the mekong, a stopover for the longboats from huay xai on the thai border to luang prabang.

the smoke on this photo of course is not that kind, the boat operators who spend the night on the vessels were preparing their breakfast before continuing up or down the river..

everlasting, designsoul, Bien has marked this note useful
