Photographer's Note

This is to share with you a few minutes during the quick gap between day and night 33,000 feet above the sea level...

I have landed Narita Airport near Tokyo 3 times in the past. During these landings, I only got trapped inside the airport while in transit without any good picture.

Last week, after leaving HKG for 3 hours on our trans-pacific flight via Alaska to Los Angeles, I noticed sunset over the altitude of 33,000 feet. After shooting a serial of pictures, I asked the Cathay Pacific flight attendant and was told that we were above Kagoshima City. This is about the southernmost tip of Kyushu Island, only 200 km South of Nagasaki. Here you can see the left wing of the Boeing 747-400 with more than 400 passengers. The aircraft is big, but when being compared with clouds, it is just a piece of durst in the nature.

This is the info shown on the personal monitor in front of me as we gained altitude of 33,000 feet after taking off from Hong Kong:

- Ground Speed: 649m/h
- Tailwind: 81 m/h
- Outside Temperature: -58F
- Total Distance To Go: 11675 km/7254 miles
- Total Time To Go: 12:05 Hours
