Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in Nagano city in Nagano Prefecture in the New Year of three years ago. Nagano is famous for the central city in northern Nagano as a temple town in Zenkō-ji. Moreover, it is the city in which the Winter Olympics and the Paralympics were held in 1998 and which had the main hall. The population has about 380,000 people. It is located in a basin, since Nagano is climate peculiar to a basin which its difference of temperature is acute. And, it is hot in summer and cold in winter. This photograph is taken from the low-level floor of a hotel through a window about 8:00 of a morning. It was snowing from the morning in that day. When I was watching the narrow passage which branched off from the main street, the person who put the red umbrella was walking. She slides on a snowy road after a while, and has fallen over. Probably, a leg will be taken by the frozen snow. It was crowded with the private houses covered to snow beyond the winding road.
