Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in Shimosuwa located in the central part of Nagano Prefecture in winter seven years ago. It is in the place of 200 km Tokyo and 50 km from Nagano-shi of the prefectural capital with distance in a straight line. Here, it is Lake Suwa with a freshwater in which its average depth is 5 meters and the surface area is 13.3 km2. It is the tectonic lake made on the cave-in background of Fossa Magna. By the lake, many anglers were hanging down thread. Probably, a carp, a crucian, a pond smelt, etc. will be fished. The place which is visible to the opposite shore is a town in Kamisuwa. Since the lake has a natural hot spring under the surface, there are many hotels or inn around the lake. The mountain range in South Alps which still left snow was visible to the back.

Reeling industry has developed Okaya city, and Suwa city as water source of the lake Meiji and Taisho period. And then, the industry evacuated during World War II, such as the camera or the clock is developed. And now, around lake forms a precision industrial zone of Japan's leading.
