Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken at the entrance of Zōjō-ji which is in the site in Shiba Park in Tokyo in winter four years ago. Although it hardly snowed in Tokyo, it was covered in the snow from the previous day on that day, and the precincts of a temple were covered in snow. The sky was covered with gray and was a heavy atmosphere. For the reason, I did not see visitors much, either. This temple was a temple of the Jōdo Buddhism and the Edo period was a family temple of the Tokugawa family. Several of generals of those days are buried in the grave of this temple. By the air raid of World War II, some buildings such as a five‐storied pagoda were burned down during war. Tokyo Tower stands on the hill slightly elevated in the back hand of a park. It is an old and new combination of a temple and a tower.
