Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken from a sidewalk near on the top of a mountain, when I visited the temple ("Yama-dera") on a mountain in Yamagata Prefecture in autumn four years ago. A temple on a mountain is called as formal name "Risshaku-ji", and is a temple of the Tendai sect of Buddhism. From ancient times, it collected the faith of people as uemple of an evil destiny end temple. It's assumed that the founding is made into A.D. 860. As Basho Matsuo, a haiku poet, visited here in 1689 on the way of a trip, and that time he wrote the following haiku.
"The utter silence , cutting through the very stone a cicada's rasp".
I climbed nearly 800 stone steps and arrived at the stage projected over the rock called "Godaido". The village with the red tin roof was located in a line to the both sides of the narrow alley of the mountain valley.
