Photographer's Note

Another from the archive, from Japan and my past.

Back during my 9th trip to Japan (been 12 times so far...) a good friend asked me along to what at the time was an undisclosed festival (from her).
Turned out it was the Ikoma Lantern Ceremony which is held at Hozan-ji in Ikoma each year on the 23rd of September.

I unfortunately don't have too many (usable) photos from that experience, but there is one that I have kept in mind ever since, and that is this one.

I don't have full details on the ceremony, but as it is a lantern ceremony there was quite literally tens of thousands of various lanterns around the shrine and the mountain.
Buddhist memorial service, festival stands, traditional music of all kinds; Shamisen , Koto , Taiko and so on.
A truly memorable experience that I hold as one of my most fond memories of Japan.
I'm going back this summer for a revisit with my family, hopefully haveing a good daytime view and relive some small bits of the experience.
