This is a beutiful spot and the composition reflects it's special athmosphere. I think the Temple is leaning a little, this may be corrected to avoid any resemblence to the tower in Pisa...

Dan. I think this shot is almost perfect. A little rotation to the left and I think it would be a big smiley.

I had the same problem with a slight tilt of the pavilion in about half my shots at Kinkakuji. I think I really let a lot of good shots go because of this.
I believe the photographer is "forced" into this error by making the front ground edge of the pavilion into an artificial horizon of the composition. Because we think of the base of a building as level we tend to square the dominant edge of a buildings foundation with the photo frame. If you line up the edge of your browser window with the foundation you clearly see that this was "chosen" as the horizontal reference for the composition.
In a landscape format I think we tend to look for a horizon line as a compositional reference. If Dan were concentrating on the tower he might have righted the building more effectively using the verticals of the walls and pillars.
