Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken while taking a walk from Tokyo Tsukishima to Tsukiji. The old building of the retro look stood in the intersectional corner. Compared with a surrounding new building, it looked fresh. Although it was a wooden building in character with a two-story private house, the wall of the second floor was covered with the copperplate. Moreover, the color had discolored green. This kind of building is made in early stages of Showa era(1926 - 1989) after the Great Kanto Earthquake(1923), and there are many housing and stores of about 2 stories. Now, seemingly, it remains in the metropolitan area as about 200 houses. The building old type which has stuck the copper plate on such an outer wall is called "copper plate construction". It is glad that it is alive while the wooden house in early stages of Showa is used finely.
