Photographer's Note

Riding the Sumida-gawa Waterbus to Odaiba, I witnessed a plane on its way to Tokyo's Haneda Airport.

The airplanes were flying low over Odaiba to turn into Haneda Airport, and from the top of the Skywheel it was amazing to watch them pass overhead.

"A graceful metal bird" is how someone in the Skywheel with me described it.

This photo, taken from the Waterbus, shows a low flying airplane over both the Skywheel and also Rainbow Bridge.

Something I talked about in my earlier photo, "Simply Tokyo", can be seen here. It is not the example I cited in that note, but it is similar. You can see a massive crane on top of a building, adding extra floors to an already immense structure.

Tokyo is such a busy city that even the skies are full of activity...

Technical: Original image, because of the distance I was from Odaiba, is very ill-defined and the colours are dull. The effect of Tokyo's smog is only apparent when taking photos across large distances - something rarely possible in the city.
I adjusted levels and contrast, which brought out the sky and the water and the buildings. I sharpened the image, and resized it for posting to TE. I havn't performed any cropping, instead I chose the sky and water to frame the distant Odaiba.
