Photographer's Note

How incredibly fortunate I was to be in Tokyo on business during the week that the cherry trees (or Sakura) blossumed.

When cherry trees blossum, every tree blossums together, the flowers literally opening up within a day or two and falling down (like snow) over the next few days. In Japan its a big deal when this happens and many people drop their normal routines for "Hanami" or (roughly) "cherry blossum viewing", an annual ritual of gathering in the park under the cherry trees with family or co-workers to basically drink a lot of sake (and enjoy the view).

On this particular trip I stayed for the weekend and visited a countryside inn with some Japanese classmates I met while at MIT. The peak of the flower blossums coincided with our saturday dip into the onsen hotsprings....a perfect traditional Japanese style weekend indeed.
