Photographer's Note

Nestled amongst the alleys surrounding Tokyo's Shinjuku station is the resting point for all photographers making their way through the city. Want to test the latest Leica? It's here on a shelf for easy access. Need a new lens? well, there is a couple of floors....if it is not at Yodobashi, then it probably doesn't exist. To get an understanding of the depth with which Japan embraces photography, Yodobashi is one of the best places to begin. As much a location for photographic consumerism, it also provides anthropological insight into Japan's embrace of photography--perhaps more encompassing than any other country on earth. Of course, other camera shops exist throughout the city (in fact it is hard to miss them), but Yodobashi is unique, if not for scale alone, then for its sheer drawing power to all and sundry.
