Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in the Suda town in Tokyo Kanda. It is located in northeastern Chiyoda-ku and belongs to the Kanda area. Immediately after World War II, the roadside stand which sells electric parts including a vacuum tube has stood side by side, and it is a root of present Akihabara. While being surrounded by the building, some old buildings remain in one corner of this town. The left photograph is a dental clinic. This dental clinic was started around the present Kanda Suda town 1-1 before 1897. It was hit by the Great Kanto Earthquake and builtas a clinic and residencein 1928. The feature at the time of foundation has appeared in the appearance design of the front by signboard or a lozenge ornament etc. well in the building of three stories of one-panels structure seen at an earthquake disaster revival term. Now, this building is designated as national registered tangible cultural property. It is interesting in the point of understanding a historical backdrop that the character is flowing into the left from the right. If a central photograph is seen, the building of mortar structure built in the middle from the early stages of Showa is located in a line with the both sides of the quick-serving soba-noodle shop on a central angle. And, the restaurant with the architecture/facade of old japanese style is shown at right photograph. It is a restaurant which is pride about 180 years of history and makes Monkfish eaten.
