Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in Rikugien Garden in Tokyo Bunkyo-ku. I visited this garden after a long time. In the lawn inside the garden, the azalea was cared for finely. A typical style of a Japanese garden is a stroll garden. This is a garden which makes an excursion and appreciates inside the garden. As a feature of development、it is the form which allotted centering on the big pond, surrounded the circumference with the park road, and reproduced the picturesque scenery of place, etc. with an artificial hill, a bridge, small island, a noted stone, etc. And, tea house is prepared as the rest station under walk in some places of a park road, and a view place from which a garden is viewed. It is the form mostly erected by the Zen temple in the Muromachi period and the feudal lord in the Edo period, and is regarded also as the compilation of a Japanese garden. In such meaning, it may differ from the western garden style which governs nature by symmetrical/geometric and rational design centering on the mansion or castle.
