Photographer's Note

This photograph is taken in Sensō-ji located in Tokyo Asakusa in the new year of six years ago. Sensō-ji is the oldest temple in Tokyo. Exactly, it overlapped with the coming-of-age ceremony on Sunday, and the precincts of a temple were very crowded with visitors on that day. Worshippers are waiting for the long sequence, in order to pray by Hondo (Main Hall). In the center of a photograph, we can see the temple office which proposes for the pray at inside of temple and sells a charm etc. The building which is visible to left-hand side is place for ritual cleansing of hands and mouth with water when visiting shrines. It is the place purifying mind and body before worshipper visits to pray and draws Omikuji (a written oracle). Moreover, we can the incense burner in the center right of the photograph, and the smoke of the incense stick has come out to it silently. Anything is said for the exorcism effect or the head to become good if exposed to smoke.
