Photographer's Note

This architecture is the inside of an old house in along the Mito highway(116㎞). The Mito highway had connected present Senju, Adachi-ku Yokyo and Mito, Ibaraki at the Edo period(16031868). And, there was calling as headquarters the house which the daimyo(feudal lord) stayed and rested on the way. This Someno family is working the headman of village of the Toride district from generation to generation, was specified as headquarters from the Mito Tokugawa family in 1687, and this house was built in 1795. Not only the local lord of the Mito Tokugawa family but other daimyos and high-ranking samurai who go the Mito highway back and forth used this house for headquarters. This photograph is taken towards the direction of the entrance door from living room. When seeing in detail, large-boned wood was constructed by the floor and the ceiling. The shoji(sliding door) covered in paper to the lattice-like wooden framework is given to between straw-matted of living room.
