Photographer's Note

Senko-ji Temple is a Buddhist temple on the top of Senko-ji Mountain. The mountain was named after the name of the temple "Senko-ji(千光寺)" that means "The Temple of Thousand Lights". The main hall of the temple has a good view of the Onomichi city and the Geiyo archipelago.

According to the legend, the temple was founded in 9th century by the grand monk Kukai. But I wonder how credible this legend is. Because Kukai has been respected very much for centuries, a lot of legends about Kukai has been fabricated in any place in the nation.

I saw that there are large rocks aroud the temple. It seems to show that the temple was built at the holy place of the Pre-Buddhist age.

Other than the Senko-ji temple itself, there are many Buddhist temples on the skirt of the mountain. The group of these temples between the sea and mountain makes the city more attractive.
