Dawn of the atomic age, a photo from Hiroshima, Chugoku

Photographer's Note

Another rendition of the Genbaku Dome (A-dome) in Hiroshima, part of the only remaining, ruined structure from the debris left after the atomic bomb explosion in 1945.

I tried to convey the horror of that event by doing some PP work - whitening out the sky and playing with the PS curves - until I got this brown-red hue which, to me, closely resembles the burned bits and pieces of children's clothing and other household objects that can be seen in the Peace Memorial Museum.

Those extreme contrasts are working well with the atomic war theme.
This picture is an excellent illustration of your idea.

Hi Cristian,

This is a great post. I'm not a big fan of OTT PP, but do I like this!
I'm a bit intrigued by your title, especially by the 'dawn' which sounds oddly optimistic here. Not sure if the irony is intended.

Cristian, c'est un excellent travail sur cette photo de ce dôme pour évoquer l'horreur de la guerre et en particulier de l'arme atomique. Les tons et le graphisme sont bien mis en valeur pour faire parler ce symbole.

The Title IMO is perfect. I really appreciate the way the sky is bleached out and the bottom right is blacked out No real critique as the picture doesn't really need any.

judicious, wise pp. the color increases the tragic, the horror that is certainly still in the air.
