Photographer's Note

In Yudanaka, about 45 min by train from Nagano, there are several famous Onsens, or hot spring baths. Famous for the snow monkeys that come and refresh themselves in the hot bath. Unfortunately we saw no monkeys when we were there.

After the bath, waiting for the train, I took this picture just by the station. I like the way the neon light resembles that old kind that one doesn't see anymore. I guess I also like the way that Japanese writing reminds of art more than letters. In a way I feel I wouldn't want to learn to read it, it would take away some of the magic.

This picture is slightly cropped. I increased the colour saturation a bit and applied a mild unsharp mask in PS6.
