Photographer's Note

I decided to upload a few older photos taken during my travels to some beautiful places in the world. The photos are scans, taken with Minolta dynax 5 that belongs to my friend. To start with - Gunung Bromo...

Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park is one of the most magical places on Earth. In the ancient Tengger caldera, there are three volcanoes that have emerged from a vast crater stretching 10km across. Gunung Kursi (2581m), Gunung Batok (2440m) and the steaming cone of Gunung Bromo (2392m) stand in the sea of ashes and volcanic sand, surrounded by the towering cliffs of the crater's edge. In the distance, outside the caldera, the highest peak of Java, and at the same time one of the most active volcanoes - Gunung Semeru (3676m)- throws its shadow, and every few minutes its ash over the whole area (LP, Indonesia 2003).

We visited the peak (Gunung Penanjakan - 2770m) at 4:30 in the morning to admire probably the most spectacular sunrise in our life. When we reached the peak, it was completely dark. After some time the sun started emerging in the east and the volcanic cones that we saw in the moon-light before, started appearing in the day light changing their colours every few minute as the sun was getting higher and higher. G. Semeru threw its ash frightening everyone standing around us. The spectacle had already begun...

Visiting the place is done the easiest by hiring a jeep on an organised trip to the caldera (after the sunrise we were also taken to the Bromo crater itself). It was the coldest, the most windy but at the same time the most beautiful moment during our visit to this exotic archipelago...
I hope you like the photo:)
