Photographer's Note
Kopi luwak is a coffee that consists of partially digested coffee cherries, which have been eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). It is therefore also called civet coffee. The cherries are fermented as they pass through a civet's intestines, and after being defecated with other fecal matter, they are collected. Producers of the coffee beans argue that the process may improve coffee through two mechanisms, selection – civets choosing to eat only certain cherries – and digestion – biological or chemical mechanisms in the animal's digestive tract altering the composition of the coffee cherries. Although kopi luwak is a form of processing rather than a variety of coffee, it has been called one of the most expensive coffees in the world, with retail prices reaching €550 / US$700 per kilogram.
Hmm, I do not drink any coffee so I haven't tried it. But the method of processing it doesn't appeal to me.
Here you can see two luwaks in a cafe in Tanah lot (Another one is sleeping above the sign).

Hello Malgo,
Animals protection societies don't like this coffee, since most of it is produced by animals kept in small cages under bad conditions. There are campaigns to boycott it. Those who buy it are probably the same kind of people who would buy rhino horns for erotic or "medical" purposes, who have money to spend and don't care about nature.
So this time you were right not to drink any coffee. But you got yourself two original photos, possibly the first ones on TE showing this animal, and in such an environment. But these don't look at all like the civets elsewhere on the net. I find similar ones when searching for luwak, so they are probably different kinds.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Malgo,
That kind of coffee is to expensive for my taste. The point of view is showing the details of the Asian palm civet. The light is giving nice tints to the colours. Have a nice day.

Dear Malgo,
A colleague of mine offered a cup once, but I kindly refused. The method of its production does not appeal to me either! )
A nicely done daily nothing special from a special place!
Best Wishes,

Hello Malgo,
I drink quite a lot of coffee, but the way this particular coffee is produced probably makes me think twice before I drink it (and the price makes me think a third time as well). Good photo of the famous civets, who are vital to the production of this coffee. Wel done.

Hello, the palm civet on the table is so overweight that it looks a little seal! This coffee produced after passing throw the animal digestion system has a lot of value. Fine colors, good sharpness, interesting photo note, regards.

Ciao Malgo,a very interesting post for a bartender like me, but I think that I will never try this type of coffee, both for the cost and for the production process really sickening .. eheeh ... great photos with these strange mammals posing as movie actors. Have a nice day and thanks,Luciano

Czesc Malgo
Ciekawy opis i prezentacja
pozdrawiam

A queer recipe that I wouldn't like to taste! Discovering the world is looking at different habits in the countries.

Hi Malgo,
Good photo about this very particular coffee partly digested by civets! I remember tasting it in Java, delicious and original!
However, these animals are suspected of being at the origin of the transmission of respiratory viruses ... I would not risk drinking them now.
Good WS too, tfs.

These are living civets, Malgo,
What a curious way to produce coffee and for sure not a very attractive thought.
Thanks and regards,

Hi Malgo
Well, I can honestly say I've learned something new today, as a non coffee drinker (never had 1 cup in my life), I don't know about this brand. I read your note along with Gert's critique...VERY interesting. Why people pay SO much money for such things is confusing...WHY? makes no sense. Thanks for the education! cheers

Witaj Malgorzata.
A to dopiero historia, zupelnie mi obca sprawa. Nigdy nie slyszalem ani o tym gatunku kawy, ani o tych co ten proces fermentacji dokonuja, ciekawe.
Dobrze ujeta scena z tym "czytajacym" z tablicy futrzakiem. Pozdrawiam.

Hello Malgo,
I have learned something new today, from your notes.
What I love about your well composed photograph is the sense of fun!
This civet looks to be carefully reading the notice.
I would have loved it even more had there been a camera nearby!!!
Stay safe,
Bev :-)

malgo
looks like the animals are very beautiful. I never had seen them before, only read about them and coffee. in brazil there is a big bird named macuco that eats the coffee fruits and has the same "high level of flavour".
take care
jorge
