Photographer's Note

In Bali, 99% of the population is Hindu (compared to 99% of the population in greater Indonesia being Muslim - according to our tour guide). The entire island is just exploding with religious expression. Every store has a paper basket for offerings to the gods, and along the sidewalk every 5 feet you will find a little in-scent holder/bundle of flowers from morning prayer. Its common to see little ceremonies going on in the middle of the day, if you drive outside of the city centers a few km. Most houses have a corner of their land dedicated to the ancestors remains, kind of like a small temple. This statue was on a main road in Kuta and I found it very catching. The woman looks so beautiful to me, and she seems to be smiling in a sort of knowing way.
