Photographer's Note
Balinese men, love to spend their afternoon taking care of their cocks, preparing for the fighting.
Cockfighting is a very old traditional in Bali. Even it is banned now, except in the temples which also part of religious ceremony, this fight still practiced everywhere, especially in the villages.
I put in the workshop some of the cockfightings they had while I was there

Hi Cessy, It looks that there is a close relationship between the fighter and the master. Nice shot of the expression for both. Good picture to use the contrast to show some darkness behind the bright side of this picture.
Thanks for the WS. They look like gladiators fighting.

Hi Cessy. What's neat here is how you have the subject matter basically in shadow then they are surrounded by the halo of light to really offset them. We the viewer can feel a connection with the man because of his eyes. Good shot Cessy!

Hi cessy.
I see the use of the basket now.
Fantastic portrait of the man and he's beloved bird.
Cock fight is something this people are very proud off, but lately it has gotten a bad name because of the avian flu.
I think you should post the darker workshop as a standalone photo, it looks like a performance on stage and is very contrastic to this quite and even romantic photo.
take care, Aleks

Hi Cessy
You seem to have a good hold over the technique of taking photos of subjects in what apperrs like a divine highlight ... i am very impressed with your exposure settings in this one as the person seems to be bathed in the sunlight
good effects and interesting WS too .. the isolated chicken would have been worth a separate post on TL
tfs ... cheers .... sarju
PS: I had no idea that this sport was practiced in Indonesia too

Hi Cessy,
This series on Balinese people is just fabulous. The light here is splendid and we can see so many details on this man and the bird. I like the way he is looking at him. You can really feel that this is one of his most cherished possessions.

HI cessy
The eye contact here with his bird, is wonderfully captured
Its not just a fighting machine for him that’s for sure
The hand contact and the cage are very good details

I allways love to see pictures from Indonesia, specially from Bali. This one is so interesting. Good idea to take it in b+w ... not typical for this scenery. Beautiful work.
