Photographer's Note

Back to the land of a 'thousand rivers' in South Kalimantan Province, characterized by rivers and canals meandering through about 1 million hectares of vast wide open wet lowlands of Barito delta - a place with abundance of water resource that can easily quench thirsty Africa! - makes life of the indigenous Banjarese so dependent on this great waterways.

It must be laundry day, every day....
A routine dailylife activity here, washing clothes in a small river, a tributary of the main artery, the mighty 900 km long Barito River. This is the place by the river bank -way way off the digital age- watching her engaged in the rigorous activity and I was able to immerse myself in the lovely tranquil setting unnoticed allowing me to watch the whole proceedings without intruding the privacy and her precious time. I couldn't help but be struck by the difference between my life with it's modern appliances and the peaceful simple scene being played out before me.

And jobs finally well accomplished....
