Photographer's Note

Evergreen tea shrub, back lit by the low early morning sunshine I thought it would be a good opportunity to get some shots with back-lighting. I watched from some distance with great admiration how the young leaves were picked carefully by the nimble hands with rythm, speed and dexterity full of concentration and in this peaceful environment all I could hear was the plucking of leaves in clicks and clacks and the lingering sweet aroma of the leaves.

This is the profile of a diligent Javanese tea picker, one of the many women pickers working on the slopes of Wonosari tea plantation, just a depiction of the strenuous occupation in rural Java, working in all the heat and humidity of the day from sunrise till late afternoon seven days a week !

It's a long back breaking day for this woman......

Maybe this is not your cuppa, but it makes me appreciate the tea I drink
