Morning Maintenance, a photo from Jakarta Raya, Java

Photographer's Note

This is from a morning shoot at Sunda Kalapa in North Jakarta. This long pier is one of the most fun and interesting places to photograph in Jakarta - particularly if you like traditional sailing ships. Morning is a good time to get there as that is the time they are loading and unloading these boats - they generally carry timber and/or cement around the islands.

On a technical note, the battery died in my camera, but fortunately my friend also shoots Canon and had also brought his digital camera. So he let me borrow his Rebel. Shooting with the Rebel was fine, but not as convenient as shooting with the Elan series or and EOS 3. But, nevertheless, we had fun and got some good shots (and I relearned the lesson of always having a spare battery in the bag :(

The combination of low point of view and wide angle gives a very dynamic composition. I like very much that there are 2 boats and not only one, it makes the picture special. The presence of the workers also makes a difference, bringing a touch of life and also giving the scale of the boats. Strong warm light and bright colors that go well, in my eyes, with boat pictures. Well done!
Maybe you could have posted a bigger picture (you have up to 800px in the largest dimension for your pictures).

Hello Franck, it would be better to enlarge the pict. to 800x600 pixels and I did not saw the workers at first.
I like this harbour scene and the composition of the 2 boats, the fishermen bring life in it. Very dynamique lines in diagonale.
Perhaps it will be interesting to see close up of works after ?

very nice moment, nicely capture Frank. I see that sunda kelapa is always a great place for photographs, will go there if I go to Jakarta. Your photo is one of the best photos of sunda kelapa I have seen. the composition and colors are beautiful

Great photo. The colors are rich and make good contrast with the blue sky. The composition and object is interesting as well with all those men working on the ships.
