Photographer's Note

Two kids taking a dip in a lake in Somrabazar, a village in Hooghly district.

For Calcuttans or visiting tourists looking to take a break from the madding crowd, Somrabazaar is the place from where you can take a 15 minute ferry ride to the island of Sabujdwip.

About 75 km north of Calcutta, at the confluence of the Behula and the Hooghly, Sabujdwip (literally meaning the green island), is actually a sandbank. The Hooghly district council and the state fisheries department are promoting it as a tourist destination.
