Photographer's Note

Brick factories line up both the banks of the river Hooghly near Raichak. The local people, who are predominantly farmers, work here as daily waged labourers during the off-season. For a densely populated region like the gangetic delta, this is just another space for the common people to keep working and earn their livelihood.

This is a place of a lot of activity, starting early in the morning. This shot, taken on a chilly foggy morning, shows one of the chimneys of the brick furnace.One can identify their existence from a distance as each of these factories have at least one chimney.
