Mumbai - Haji Ali Dargah

When traveling, the night often falls faster than desirable. Even much faster in tropical countries.
Sometimes it is not possible for me to visit all the sights during the day. Or I should stay many days more in each location I visit.

On the other hand, I like to admit that I found many places in the world particularly fascinating in the evening or at night. Some places look even magical in the evening and it has happened that I couldn’t find the same atmosphere again when I went back the next day.

If this would be the case with the Haji Ali Dargah, I honestly don’t know. I’ve been there only once and that was right after sunset.
I wanted to arrive with daylight but in Mumbai the sun was already setting at 6 pm.
Now I didn’t regret my visit in the evening because this was one of those magical places one can visit after dark.
Honestly, I have very nice memories of a number of places in the world where I was only after dark and this is one of them.

The illumination of sights and monuments is only one reason but the atmosphere in the night is often so different, so special.
There were other western tourists here but not that many. However, there were masses of Indian visitors.

The Haji Ali Dargah is an Indo-Islamic shrine located on an off-shore inlet in the Arabian Sea. You have access to this shrine via a very long causeway.
It has been built in the 19th century and contains the tomb of the saint Pir Haji Ali Shah Bukhari. According to the legend this man died while on a pilgrimage to Mecca and his casket miraculously floated back to this spot.
Thousands of pilgrims visit the shrine every day but as in many places in India you will see people of all faiths. Everyone is welcome.

Information from LP-guide.

Since I found nothing to place my camera on, the pictures lack sharpness. I just hope you will be able to get an idea of the atmosphere.
For those among you who don’t like the colour of the illumination, I honestly cannot help it but for some time quite colourful illumination has been used from the moment I come to visit :) 
