Photographer's Note

About eight o'clock each morning in Mandu families gather with containers in front of their houses around a small hole at the edge of the street.

One of the family, in this case a young boy, climbs down in the hole, dips up water, and hands it out to other family members who pour it into the waiting containers.

There seems to be a water pipe under the road that has been broached at each house. The water is turned on for a while each morning. By the middle of the day there is nothing but mud left in the 'wells'.
