Photographer's Note

Mandawa is a wonderful place to visit in the less frequently visited Shekhawati region of Rajasthan (north-east area). The Havelis are being restored and repainted to their original colourful glory. They were built for the wealthy rajput merchants in the 18th century. The town is no longer so important for trade but because it has so many beautiful buildings and interesting streets it is worth detouring from the normal Rajasthan tour routes to visit. While wandering around Mandawa we were welcomed and this old man was cooking and selling food close to the road. I have used a black and white effect to overcome some some problems with exposure. However, I feel that it brings out the character of the man better than in colour.
