Photographer's Note
Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India is an ancient town
and revered as a supreme religious destination. Famous
for the Vishwanath Temple and the numerous Bathing Ghats along the river Ganga, this place attracts a huge number of visitors from various countries. The town is exceptionally intersting in many ways . A boat ride on Ganga reveals a lot of Varanasi that one can not, otherwise witness.
The photo, captured from a boat, shows the famous Manikarnika Burning Ghat where mortal remains of Hindus are consigned to flames.
So much is the rush for cremation on this Ghat that
one always finds some cremation taking place at all times. In the photo too, the flames and smoke from a number of such ongoing cremations can be seen.
