Photographer's Note
Just came from Puskar, it's just 11 km. from Ajmer(RAJASTAN,INDIA) comes alive during Puskar Fair, when people from all over Rajasthan converge at Pushkar with their cattle stock. Pushkar Fair is regarded as one of the largest camel festivals in the world. Celebrated in the month of October-November, Pushkar Fair attracts domestic as well as foreign tourist to Pushkar in Rajasthan.
Pushkar festival is not about camels only but it is also about horses, cows, goats, sheep and most importantly about the lively people of Rajasthan, who come to the Pushkar fair in their best attires. The festival looks like a riot of colors with men wearing colourful turbans and women in pleated ghagaras (ankle-length skirts) of different hues. The festival offers a wonderful opportunity to see the people selling and buying camels, goats, horses etc. Bargaining, negotiations and transactions remain order of the days during the festival.
Sporting events are other attractions of the Pushkar Fair. One can enjoy the camel and horse races during the festival. Camel beauty contest is another highlight of the festival. The beautifully decked up camels are paraded and then the most beautiful camel is selected.
Pushkar is a religious town and is one of the important pilgrimage centers of Hindus. Pushkar is known for the holy Pushkar Lake and the many temples that dot the area. Puskar is associated with lord Brahma and is the only place in India, which has a temple dedicated to lord Brahma.

Hi Subir
The red turban is fantastic. The camel and the cart in the background also make for a good story.
TFS.

Great portrait shot, with and interesting and out of focus background on the left part of the picture. Sharpness really interesting on the man's face, enhancing his barb. I also love the red of his turban (is it english this word?)

Hello Subir,
A very beautiful portrait of this Rajasthani man. I like the way he looks proud into the camera. His face, turban and clothes are so sharp on the picture.
Interesting background with the Pushkar Fair.
Best regards, Paul

Hi Subir!
That's a good portrait with a beautiful soft light and great tones of colors. The vivid red turban on his head is striking and invite us to look more carefully his face. Maybe it's the sun on the face that obliges him to look at you this way, but he seems very canny; someone we can't cheat. I appreciate the sharp details of the skin and of the tissus. The edging of the longi that he wears around his neck to protect him from cold in this early morning, is shining beautifully. The saturation of the colors is excellent, and the presence of the camel in the background perfects the composition. Congratulations,
Regards

Hi Subir,
Thanks for your comment! A nice portrait from the camel fair...looks like we were on the fair ground the same day catching pictures! Did you have to pay for this picture? I was a bit annoyed at taking portraits in India as everyone, even 2 year old kids asked for money all the time. Nevertheless it was a fascinating trip and I shot plenty of interesting pictures in the great country!
Cheers, Léonie

Very strong portret, with an wondeful choise for a low DOF giving the unsharp bg that makes this man come out even stronger but showing well his enviroment. Excelent done.
Best regards

Dear Subir, thank you very much for this detailed note, it was very useful to understand the setting.
As for the picture, the red turban and the light on it are just amazing, its details breathtaking. The idea to have the camel chariot at the back and the whole composition are clever, my only suggestion would be to avoid cutting the legs of the camel.
Finally, a minor note: The seemingly the little red turban on the right, at the back, distracts the attention a little.
TFS. Great job.
