Photographer's Note

This photo was taken at the colourful and eclectic old city street market in the city of Jodhpur, western Rajasthan.

Jodhpur has a population of approximately 850,000 people and is known as the second city of Rajasthan. The city of Jaipur to the east is capital of this region.

Jodhpur sprawls around the impressive clifftop Meherangarh (Majestic) Fort. The old part of the city, nearest the fort, is surrounded by a huge 9.5km long wall with 7 gates and 101 bastions. Inside the walls are a tangled labyrinth of narrow streets and it's easy to soon lose your bearings.

The market is located in the 'clock tower' region of the old city and sells pretty much everything from food, spices, textiles and clothing to household items, toys and electronic goods.

This girl was selling fruit with her mother.

PP details: Slight cropping of image to the top and right sides (about 5% each side); Subtle colouring added to try and hide the over-exposed sky; Minimal contrast correction; White frame added.

Lovely subject ... you've captured her portrait well. DOF is very good giving the subject the required sharpness and focus. Skin tone is perfect ... excellent work! tfs

I like this shot Richard - it's a good portrait of this little girl, and you captured an appealing expression. Definitely a cut above the average cute kid shot.
I have a minor niggle with the centred framing though, and I think it might have worked better if you'd placed her more to the right edge of the frame. This would also have revealed more of the details of the street scene in the background.

A very nice portrait, because of the expression of the girl and the side lighting on her face. I browsed through your gallery and I find it impressive. I like your pics of Argentina, your night shot of the Sydney Opera House, the Doorway of No Return in Peru and many more. Very interesting as I have not been to Peru or Argentina.

Olá Rich, I can recognize well this square where I passed by a million times, while visiting this marvellous blue city. You did a wonderful portrait of this adorable girl, offering you some papaya. The green dress makes a nice contrast and her expression is great with those pretty big eyes.

Very applealing photo, it doesn't get more personal than this.
The moment is excellent, so much life in her eyes.
But what really cought my initial view is the way her green clothing stands out from the otherwise quite grey and "regular" background.
