Photographer's Note

This picture was taken in the streets of Jodhpur far away from our comfortable world and It was an eye opener to say the least. I was very much taken by what I saw, a very disturbing social issue and touching illustration of imbalance of wealth and ideology. Couldn't help but notice this street kid sleeping by the road side, an almost statue like quality, in a broad daylight along the main thoroughfare.

This illustrates the complexity and contradictions I experienced in this country, which is just full of juxtapositions. I wanted to express the hard fact about street children and the duality of this image of two very opposite subjects; tension between the posters' symbol of glamour & wealth and the stark reality of poverty & homelessness and the play on the title. Just a simple street photography; grab-it-as-you-can sort of thing as it happened before my eyes. Of course the local were very furious for taking this shot but they didn't attempt to stop me, or followed me, just shouting which I dealt with calmly.

I strongly believe that every child has a dream.....
even this street kid! Maybe it touches you…
and maybe it doesn’t.

I guess sometimes a photograph isn't pretty or happy it just says what it says and this is one of those.

no more words needed......
