Photographer's Note

At first I did not intend to upload this picture, but then I watched again Slum Dog Millionaire. So I felt, I will upload it as an example of Mumbai's resettlement plan.

India’s economic hub Mumbai has the largest slum population in the country where more then half of its 12 million population live in slums. Finding unencroached land for commercial and private development has become increasingly difficult, what forced the state government to . The plight of slum dwellers recently has been highlighted in the mega movie “Slam Dog Millionaire”. My picture shows a social housing redevelopment near the Mumbai suburb Kurla which is part of the proposed urban redevelopment plan for the Dharavi area – where cheap but illegal slum housing always has been available. All families who lived in this area before the year 2000 are slated for redevelopment which is realized at a snails pace.
