Photographer's Note
Brihadeshwara Temple (Tamil:Peruvudaiyar Kovil) is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva located in Thanjavur in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is also known as Periya Kovil, RajaRajeswara Temple and Rajarajeswaram.[
It is one of the largest temples in India and is an example of Dravidian architecture during the Chola period. Built for Raja Raja Chola I and completed in 1010 AD, the temple turned 1000 years old in 2010. The architect and engineer of the temple, Kunjara Mallan Raja Raja Perumthachan is revered today as a father figure to all craftsmen in his homeland of present-day Central Kerala.
The temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Great Living Chola Temples", with the other two being the Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Airavatesvara temples.

HI Stephen,
The point of view is showing the details of this section of the Brihadeshwara Temple. It is clear and precise. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Stephen,
This is a beautiful frieze!
The light and shadows has created quite a 3D effect, it feels to be standing away from the screen with great clarity!
The deities and patterns are very distinctive.
It's interesting to consider that this was being created about 50 years prior to our Battle of Hastings!
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Stephen,
Isn't it extraordinary that every square inch has been carved by the artists and artisans in some of these temples. The one I saw in New Delhi is a mosque that dates to the Mogul Period, but with calligraphy having replaced the human and animal images, adding a degree of abstract design. The photograph presents the details very effectively.
Incidentally, I incorporated your comment, "They say a willing volunteer is worth ten pressed men," into my note accompanying the photo of the young Melanesian dancing for the passengers." Thank you.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Stephen,
What a beautiful ensemble of wonderfully carved sculptures with fantastic details. The light and the golden hues of the stones were both very favourable here.

Hello Stephen,
Excellent frames picture of this detail of the temple.
It shows the interesting image of the sculptures very well. I think, if I look at the upper stroke, that the temple need some Restoration.
The shadow gives a good depth on the scene.

Bonjour Stephen
On peut passer un très long moment devant ce mur pour tout voir et surtout tout apprécier. La lumière est vraiment très forte et brûle un peu les détails.
Amicalement

Hi Stephen
You've posted some amazing shots of this place but this is the crown for me, such intricate levels of detail in these ancient carvings, and you caught them under a light that throws beautiful shadows which compliment the sandstone colors so well
I am falling in love with this place through your photos
Cheers

Ciao Stephen
i segni del tempo di iniziano a vedere, ma la bella scultura continua a tramandarci storie e riti di secoli fa.
Si tratta di un "ricamo" molto elaborato fatto da artisti molto bravi.
Saluti

Hi Stephen
Magnificent work of those ancient craftsmen, nicely captured by your lens.
It reminds me to the Puuc style in the Mayan temples.

Hello Stephen,
the art is fascinating, it contains explicit scenes and symbols that look like riddles to me. I like how the tight composition leads us to concentrate on the architecture and the details, the strong light adds intensity and makes the scene even more spectacular. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,
Ourania

Hello Stephen,
These ornate sculptures are amazing. And to think they were made without the benefit of any mass production facilities!
