Photographer's Note

Took this (grainy) photo of Thiruparankundram from an early morning flight en-route to Madurai. There is a famous temple for Lord Murugan that has been completely carved out of this small hill. You will be amazed to see how tall the ceilings of the temple rise, considering the fact that it is all inside a hill and that it was built soo many years ago ! For monkey lovers, this will be a heaven ..... There is also a big teppakulam (water tank/pond) inside the temple filled with fish and the devotees usually feed them with Pori (form of rice).

Excerpt from Wikimapia :

Ancient rock cut temple. One of the six abodes of Lord Murugan. In Tamil 'kundram' means a hillock.
The southern side of the mountain have ancient Siddha & Jain heritage spot maintained by Archeology Survey of India.
Another temple & a dargah situated above the hill.
