Photographer's Note

Melukote in Pandavapura taluk of Mandya district, Karnataka, in southern India, is one of the sacred places in Karnataka. The place is also known as Thirunarayanapuram. It is built on rocky hills, known as Yadavagiri or Yadugiri, overlooking the Cauvery valley. Melukote is about 51 km (32 miles) from Mysore and 133 km (83 mi) from Bangalore. It is a sacred pilgrim centre.

Melukote is the location of the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple, with a collection of crowns and jewels which are brought to the temple for the annual celebration. On the top of the hill is the temple of Yoganarasimha. Many more shrines and ponds are located in the town. Melukote is home to the Academy of Sanskrit Research, which has collected thousands of manuscripts.

Early in the 12th century, the famous Srivaishnava saint Sri Ramanujacharya, who hailed from Tamil Nadu, stayed at Melukote for about 12 years. It has thus become a prominent centre of the Srivaishnava sect.

Dear Lakshmi,
great view from the top of this beautiful village surrounded by vegetation with many palm trees in the city, the temple is clearly visible, I like the contrast between green vegetation and red roofs, I know of Mysore and Bangalore and Madurai where you find the most Hindus of ancient times, but i did not about this place, have a good day, Valter

Hello Lakshmi,

We both do in a view from the top this morning. This is a effective presentation of this town. There is a lot of vegetation and the greem red and white contrast with each other. The framing is good as are the colors and sharpness.

Hello Dear Lakshmi!

The photo with its texture is splendid! With the well-elevated point of view, we receive a very nice view over this community. The uniformity of all the roofs, the palm trees, and the white architecture are very attractive. Unsaturated colours put the image at a far distant. The view over this community is taken from a point even more elevated than the village itself. The inclusion of the far distant scene helps us to put the photo in its context. We have seen some images from Indian towns already. It is very nice to see the overall impression of an Indian village. I almost always like to look far into the distant; this photo does that very nicely. I like the view, I also love the texture.

A good view from higher ground on the small town, red roof-tops and a shrine, with many palm treesaround.
looking carfuly on image, I see no paved roads, and relatively poor living condition. Well conveyed document from india.

Love the warm cold color contrast between the sea of red roofs & the blue hazy bg. Good sharpness & a superb high pov. The golden stepped pyramid shape of the bg golden temple makes a good focal point. Tfs!

Hello Lakshmi,

You're capturing well this town on hill by a good angle, so it's interesting and impressive to see a lot of crowded houses with red roof and surrounding greenery. It's impressive in gold temple in the end of a town, too. And, low mountain range in behind draw out good effect in this image.
