At the banks of the Tungabhadra river in Hampi...

At the backdrop the incomplete bridge across the Tungabhadra whose construction started in the late 1990s, but now its construction stands stalled...

"..Since Hampi demands to be considered in it's entirety as an archeological park, not merely as an assemblage of isolated monuments of historic significance, as is the case today..the situation has now reached a crisis with the construction of the massive suspension bridge by the Public Works Department(PWD) across the Tungabhadra, which threatens to bring highway traffic through the middle of the site. UNESCO has reacted by placing Hampi on its list of endangered World Heritage sites.."**
