Photographer's Note

Kondakarla Ava is a shallow (max 10 - 12') freshwater lake about 50 km from Vizag. From Visakhapatnam you can travel south towards Anakapalle ( 40 KM ) on NH5 and take a left turn towards Atchutapuram on Haripalem Road. After travelling 6 KM on Haripalem road the village road will be at your left. From here Lake is 2 KM through Kondakarla village. It is a rural area and does not seem to attract a lot of tourists, though.
Local fishermen and villagers prepare boats by joining two palm trees and making a sitting arrangement by placing a wooden plank or wooden bed over it. This arrangement remains quite stable in water. While boating you can pluck lotus flowers from the water. There is no fixed rate or any type of ticket arrangement here. Rates depends on demand and season. On our visit the boat man asked for Rs 300 for a one and half hour boating to other side of the lake. The early morning boating is a beautiful experience.
