Photographer's Note
This is inside Borra Caves which is situated in Andhra Pradesh, about 90 KMs away from Vishakhapatnam. This is in Anantgiri Hill ranges of Eastern Ghats. Thuis cave is 150 million years old and was discovered in 1807 by British Geologist William King.
The humic acid in the water reacts with calcium carbonate in the limestone and dissolves the minerals breaking the rock gradually.
The water percolating from the roof containing calcium bi carbonate and other minerals form spear like structure and it hangs from the roof like this photograph. This is called "Stalactite". Those which mound on the ground are called "Stalagmites". Variuos shapes can be seen in the photograph formed naturally like mollah's topi, Rishi's beard, Bats and all.
It is very dark inside the cave and some artificial lights are arranged to have a look at this amazing place. I had to use flash to get the effect of different shapes to full effect. It takes almost 3 hours to cover the whole cave. Hope you enjoy this.
