Kumbahakarna ( Jannu ) Peak, a photo from Sikkim, Northeast

Photographer's Note

This is the view of the Kumbhakarna Peak (earlier it was known as Jannu )shot from Ravangla, in West Sikkim. The spot from which this photograph was taken is a resort ( mt. narsingh village resort), about 5 kms beyond the main market area on the way to Pelling. It’s a steep climb from the main road – so take a 4 wheel drive.

Ravangla is about 4hours from both Gangtok and Siliguri – best visited – hmm – anytime !! ( am in love with sikkim )

This peak lies in Nepal, 11km to the West of the summit of Kangchenjunga. A long ridge connects it to Kangchenjunga. Its height is 7710m.

It is the 32nd highest mountain in the world. It is more notable for its climbing challenge: it is one of the hardest peaks in the world in terms of technical difficulty, due to a complex structure, a large rise above local terrain, and particularly steep climbing near the summit.

Sikkim is high on my list of places to visit. You just moved it up a notch.

Great shot of Jannu from ravangla..the best part of the shot is the foreground you have captured which give s avrey goof size and distance perspective,...!!

i am sure you love this place and so do i. i have not been there till date, but by the pictures that i am seeing on TE, i must go there. why is the peak named so? its not so sleepy tough...i must say that the framing is not so accurate. you should have taken the entire house in the frame. by cutting it in between....its looks disturbed. i love the colors and the sharpness....good work...
