Photographer's Note

On a journey from Varanasi to Mumbai by train, I got out at a station to stretch my legs, as there it often waits at the plaform for 10 minutes before it starts moving off again unannounced.
I walked down the platform, saw some major overcrowding, ran back to my carriage and grabbed my camera. Came back, starteded to shoot, looked further down the platform, noticed more people still, so walked further down along these 3rd class carriages. I started taking photos, then suddenly to my suprise the train was starting to move off again through the viewfinder! My stomach dropped as I realised my 2nd class AC carriage (which wasnt crowded as 2AC is reserved seating) was quite far away now, and there was no way I could jump into one of these carriages and just walk back down... they were literally packed with people who couldnt get in themselves. I sprinted as fast as I could along the platform as the train was moving away from me, and gradually gaining speed. I saw the open door of 2AC in the distance getting closer and closer, but the train kept moving faster and faster. I thought I had made a huge mistake and that my bags on the train with everything would be off across India without me.

Fortunately, my superpowers kicked in and my legs got me to the open door and I jumped in as the train rolled off. I took some time to catch my breath, and laughed at what could have been a disaster. Well, at least I got a photo out of it!
