Photographer's Note

I was in agra and adjoining Fatehpur Sikri over the extended weekend and came back with a rich haul. The two cities turned out to be like monuments! Agra was disappointing though with chaotic traffic, dust and filth and some of the worst parking management in the world not to mention the touts who seemed to be working with a free hand outside every monument. However once inside it was a different world...it took me back by centuries. the stones reached out and spoke. the tales were etched in every niche.

Fatehpur was the city Akbar built in 1571 and abandoned due to lack of water in 1584. It was an hour's drive from Agra and was a different world altogether. This was amongst other places the house of the horses or then the stud farm where the royal horses rested. The stone rings towards the bottom are where they they were tied. There were three similar long corridors on three sides. Although I had thought I was done and over with corridors, fathepur and Agra both turned out be cities of corridors...so I am back with more corridors.
