Photographer's Note

Walking the back streets of Agra old quarter just outside the walls of Taj Mahal is a real eye opener for me. This is the sort of scene that always grabs my attention. It seems that time has stopped there, it's fascinating to see the contrast of how many still live like this while the rest of the world races ahead and chases advancement.

Where I come from, we'd regard it as a slum, but when abroad in far off places it takes on a different meaning, all part of the local charm, no matter what the locals might think. The lady is as antique as the building's grubbiness behind, but I feel that there is an immediate emotional connection and bonding between them.

She sat calmly and just too happy to let me take her picture with the fleeting smile as she watched the world go by......
