Photographer's Note
Hangs by a thread,
and stalks the earth,
the shadow of death
where he stops,
no body knows,
until he has departed
we find his sorrow,
Well, that as it is,
death comes to all,
but not this day.
While going up to an 11,000 foot pass we passed a group of Gaddy (I am informed that this is the term used for the semi nomadic people. One of their children was very ill, crying and crying. We were asked for pills butto be honest what we had was of little use and the cause of the childs discomfort unknown. However altitude sickness comes in many forms and a quick assent could have caused the child the discomfort that made it cry. Something as easy as a cold with bunged up sinusus, very painful that can be. Anyway we told them to decend for a few days and see if that helped or after that find a local doctor. In these parts the doctors are far away and hospitals a million more. Death has an easier time here but not this time as the child recovered as we saw then again some few days later.

Its the will which wins even if the conditions are odd. Great shot coupled with emotional note. The rugged terrain coupled with the icy looks adds charms to your shot.

Simon: your image is unique among the uploads today. Nice use of old argentic grain. A fine specimen of BW photography. Great, highly resolved details. regards, c

This works well in black and white, and I like the way the dark figures of the people and animals are set against the snow. I kind of wish that youhad taken it a few seconds earlier when the lead horse and man were also on the snow patch, but hey ho.
You've captured something here; the insignificance of man, the will of man to overcome obstacles. A lot can be read into this image, but at the end of the day it's a great shot and that's what matters.
Good work.
Cheers,
Ben
