Photographer's Note

On a trek from Likir to Themisgang.

A group of older women were sitting in the field, drinking thee, chatting, and spinning wool.

Thanks to our local Ladakhi guide, we were able to have a small conversation. And in the end the allowed me to make some pictures.

These grand-angle pictures usually give me the most satisfaction. Being a tourist, I have to try to come close to the people, starting some kind of communication, sometimes with words, sometimes only some gestures or a smile. If I would only be using a 200mm tele, it keeps these people at a distance, giving me the feeling of "stealing" their image. For me as a person, the grand-angle forces me to make contact.
