Photographer's Note

It was a short drive from Reckong Peo to Kalpa & Salim, our driver suggested that we visit Roghi village first. The road stretch between Kalpa & Roghi is considered to be one of the most dangerous roads in the world & definitely not for people who have vertigo. We stopped at a place called ‘Suicide Point’, from where the Sutlej was visible like a thick rope almost 1,500-meters down a steep, almost 70 degrees plunge. The road was narrow & single lane & I was praying we should not have a crossing with another car in this stretch.

We found Roghi village uninspiring, as it was a village mostly urbanized now. Interesting was this ‘backpack’ which I noticed on the lady’s back, as she stopped in one of the village’s provision shops. The lady wore a traditional "Kinnaur Topi" or cap with the green front lining, The kid, with his exposed bottoms, was simply not interested at us (my wife & me) trying to take his picture...he refused to look towards the shy kid in this camera savvy era? :-)

Please click here if you want to see a Close-up of his face.

Praying while returning on the same stretch, that we don't have a crossing with another car, we reached Kalpa, merely 5 Km down by 3 in the afternoon.
